The EERC Fellowship 2026 is now accepting applications from qualified Nigerian researchers seeking an international research opportunity in Africa. Hosted by the Environmental and Economic Resource Centre (EERC) in Malawi, the fellowship offers a monthly allowance, free accommodation, research funding opportunities, and access to global research networks.
The 9 to 18-month program is designed for mid-career and senior academics working in climate change, agriculture, economics, environmental management, and related fields. Selected fellows will contribute to research projects while strengthening collaboration between EERC and their home institutions.

The EERC Fellowship is a research and capacity-building opportunity hosted by the Environmental and Economic Resource Centre (EERC), a non-profit scientific research organization working across Africa.
The fellowship allows experienced researchers to take a sabbatical break from their institutions and join EERC’s research team. Fellows will conduct independent research, support ongoing projects, supervise early-career scientists, and contribute to grant proposal development.
The 2026 fellowship cohort is expected to begin in July or August 2026 and will run for between 9 and 18 months.

Monthly Fellowship Allowance
Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to the salary they continue receiving from their home institution. Applicants must therefore obtain approval from their institution before joining the program.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a PhD in one of the eligible fields
- Have strong research leadership experience
- Have experience supervising early-career researchers
- Be affiliated with a Nigerian university or research institution
- Demonstrate proficiency in SAS, R, and STATA
- Show the ability to develop research proposals across multiple focus areas
Researchers from the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) accredited institutions are encouraged to apply.
