Who Qualifies for the Dorrance Scholarship?

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be an Arizona resident.
  • Be a high school senior (public, private, charter, or home school).
  • Be a first-generation college student (no parent or guardian with a four-year degree).
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Meet test score requirements: SAT 1110, ACT 22, or CLT 72.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Agree to live on campus for the first two years of college.

How Much Can You Receive?

The Dorrance Scholarship awards up to $12,000, making it one of the most significant scholarships for first-generation Arizona students. It is both merit- and need-based, so strong academic performance and financial need are both considered.

Application Process

The application happens in three phases:

  1. Phase I: Submit the online application, verification documents, and FAFSA Submission Summary by February 4, 2026.
  2. Phase II: Semi-finalists submit writing samples and two recommendation letters by March 4, 2026.
  3. Phase III: Finalists attend an in-person interview. Recipients are announced by April 30, 2026.

  • Summer Bridge Program: Five-week pre-freshman program to build college skills.
  • Humanities Program: Summer after freshman year to improve communication, critical thinking, and cultural awareness.
  • Study Abroad Program: Semester-long experience abroad to expand learning and personal growth.
  • Innovation Program: Summer after sophomore year to develop problem-solving and innovation skills.

What Scholars Must Commit To

Recipients are expected to:

  • Attend all program events and meetings.
  • Complete the Summer Bridge Program.
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA while studying full-time.
  • Participate in volunteer service.
  • Submit annual reports and FAFSA.
