The WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship 2027 is now accepting applications from journalists, media professionals, journalism students, and eligible students in related fields who need financial support to attend the World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 in London. The World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 (WCSJ2027) will take place in London from 6 to 9 September 2027. The fellowship application requires selected fellows to be available from 6 to 10 September 2027.

WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship Benefits
The fellowship provides financial support to selected participants to attend the conference in London. Support includes approved travel and conference-related costs.
The WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship covers or supports:
- Travel to and from London by air, rail, coach or bus
- UK visa application costs
- Limited local transport connected with the conference
- Up to six nights of accommodation
- Full conference registration
- Conference refreshments and lunches
- Reception catering included in the conference programme
WCSJ2027 will arrange and pay for approved travel and accommodation directly. Other approved expenses may be reimbursed after fellows arrive in London.

Who Can Apply for the WCSJ2027 Fellowship?
The opportunity is open internationally to applicants who have professional involvement in journalism. Science journalism does not have to be their main profession.
Eligible applicants include:
- Journalists and media professionals covering science, engineering, climate, health or related subjects
- Freelance, part-time and full-time media professionals
- Students studying journalism, science journalism, media studies, science communication or related subjects
- Researchers and teachers in journalism, media studies or science communication who have a proven journalism record
Applicants who work only in public relations, research, teaching or science communication without professional journalism experience are not eligible. Students must be of legal age in their home country and able to travel independently.
Applicants must also be able to attend the full required period in London, have a passport valid until at least the end of September 2027, or provide evidence that they have applied for or renewed their passport.

- CV or résumé of no more than two pages
- Professional biography
- Current employer, institution or professional affiliation
- Current role and years of journalism experience
- Three examples of published work from the past two years
- Supporting letter from an employer, editor, educational institution or professional association
- Motivation statement
- Knowledge-sharing plan
- Funding statement explaining financial need
Work examples can be written, audio, video, or multimedia. Applicants whose work was originally published in another language can provide an English translation or transcript with the original work. AI tools may be used for translations or transcripts if they accurately reflect the original.
WCSJ2027 Selection Criteria
Applications are assessed through a competitive international review process. Reviewers consider:
- Commitment to journalism and science journalism
- Professional development and engagement with the journalism community
- Motivation for attending WCSJ2027
- Expected professional benefit and contribution
- Plans for sharing knowledge after the conference
- Quality of the submitted work
- Financial need
Applicants based in countries classified as low-income or lower-middle-income by the World Bank will receive additional consideration under the programme’s international participation objectives.
