The University of Lausanne awards around 10 Master’s Scholarships each year. Selected students receive financial support for the minimum statutory period of their Master’s programme. UNIL Master’s Scholarship 2027 Benefits

The scholarship provides a monthly payment to help international students with their expenses while studying in Switzerland.

• Scholarship amount: CHF 1,600 per month
• Duration: Minimum statutory period of the selected Master’s programme
• Course registration fees: Exempted for scholarship recipients
• Semester fees: CHF 80 remain payable
• The scholarship does not cover the full cost of living in Switzerland.

Who Can Apply for the UNIL Master’s Scholarship?

Applicants must meet several conditions before applying. Candidates should:

• Hold a foreign university degree recognized as equivalent to a Swiss university bachelor’s degree.
• Have achieved outstanding academic results during their studies.
• Meet the required C1 language level in French or English, depending on the language of instruction of the selected Master’s programme.
• Not already be enrolled at the University of Lausanne.
• Pay the required CHF 200 administrative fee.

Eligible Master’s Programmes

The scholarship can be used for eligible Master’s degrees offered by the University of Lausanne. However, some programmes are excluded.

Applicants cannot apply for the scholarship for the following programmes:

• Master’s degree from the School of Medicine
• Master in Sciences and Practices of Education
• Most Master’s programmes in Law, with specific exceptions
• Master of Science in Physical Education and Sport Didactics
• Master of Science in Health Sciences
• Master of Science in Sustainable Management & Technology
• Master of Science in Human Taphonomy
• All MAS programmes

Special additional conditions apply to applicants for Master’s programmes in Finance, Psychology, Arts and Nursing.

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare their application as a single PDF. The file should contain:

• Updated CV with photo
• Cover letter of up to two pages
• University diploma and official transcripts
• Programme description if the bachelor’s degree is not yet completed
• Required language certificate
• Secondary school leaving diploma
• Passport copy
• Proof of payment of the CHF 200 administrative fee

Applicants must also arrange two recommendation letters. These must be sent directly by the recommenders from professional email addresses.

How to Apply for the UNIL Master’s Scholarship 2027

• Step 1: Check that you meet the eligibility requirements and select an eligible Master’s programme at the University of Lausanne.
• Step 2: Pay the CHF 200 administrative fee and keep the payment receipt. The fee is non-refundable.
• Step 3: Prepare your application as one PDF file containing your CV, cover letter, academic documents, language certificate if required, secondary school diploma, passport copy and proof of payment.
• Step 4: Complete the online Master’s Scholarship application and upload your single PDF file.
• Step 5: Arrange for two recommendation letters to be sent directly by your referees from their professional email addresses to mastergrants@unil.ch.
• Step 6: If your diploma was obtained in a country that has not ratified the Lisbon Convention, send the required certified true copies of your diplomas and transcripts by post to the University of Lausanne.
• Step 7: Submit the complete application by 1 November 2026. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
• Step 8: Wait for the selection process. The Scholarship Selection Board makes its decision in March, and applicants are informed in early April.

Important: The Master’s Scholarship application also serves as your application for admission to the selected UNIL Master’s programme, so you do not need to submit a separate application to the Admissions Office.
