Eligibility Criteria

What Fellows Will Do

During the fellowship, selected researchers will:

  • Conduct independent research at KWI.
  • Spend at least three days per week at the institute.
  • Participate in colloquia, lectures, conferences, workshops, and reading groups.
  • Contribute an article to the KWI Blog.
  • Attend entry and exit interviews.
  • Acknowledge KWI in publications produced during the fellowship.

Although teaching is not required, fellows may participate in academic activities at nearby universities.

Academic Environment

KWI is part of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), which connects the universities of Duisburg-Essen, Bochum, and Dortmund. Fellows will also have opportunities to collaborate with researchers at nearby universities in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Münster, and Bielefeld, as well as the Folkwang University of the Arts.

The Ruhr region is one of Europe’s largest metropolitan areas and offers a strong academic network with access to numerous research centers, graduate schools, and international collaborations.
