Research Areas

The fellowship is open to applicants working in any field of political science. Candidates are expected to develop an original research project that aligns with the department’s expertise and demonstrates its relevance to the University of Calgary.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a PhD in Political Science earned within four years of the fellowship start date.
  • Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must not hold another postdoctoral fellowship or any other full-time position during the fellowship period.
  • Applicants who have not yet graduated must provide proof that their PhD will be completed before their chosen fellowship start date.

Fellowship Expectations

During the fellowship, the selected researcher will be expected to:

  • Conduct an independent research program.
  • Participate as a full-time, in-person member of the Department of Political Science where possible.
  • Engage in departmental events and academic activities.
  • Share research findings through a public presentation or similar event in Calgary.

  • Research proposal (maximum four pages, plus bibliography)
  • Statement explaining the project’s fit with the Department of Political Science

  • Proof of PhD completion (if applicable)
  • Optional one-page statement addressing special circumstances, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA), and/or Indigenization
