Eligibility Requirements for the Hesse Fund for Refugees
To qualify, applicants must generally meet the following:
- Refugee Status
- Recognized refugee status, asylum seeker eligible for asylum, or temporary protection in Germany.
- Academic Placement
- Must be enrolled (or in the admission process) at a state university in Hessen
OR
- Accepted for PhD studies
OR
- Hold/receive a research or teaching position at a Hessen university.
- Academic Performance
- Must demonstrate a strong academic record or research achievements.
- Residency Requirement
- Should not have been registered in Germany for more than 4-5 years since asylum application

- Passport / ID / Residence Permit showing refugee status

- Enrollment Certificate or Admission Letter from a Hessen university

How to Apply for the Hessen Fund Scholarship
- Choose a state university in Hessen (e.g., Frankfurt, Marburg, Kassel, Darmstadt, Gießen, etc.).
- Contact the International Office or Refugee Student Coordinator.
- Ask for their HessenFonds nomination procedure.
- Prepare and submit your documents to the university.
- If selected, the university will nominate you to the ministry.
- Final selection is made by the Hessian Ministry.
Important: You do NOT apply directly to the government. You must apply through the International Office or Refugee Support Office of your university in Hessen.
