1. Wageningen University Excellence Programme

The Wageningen University Excellence Programme is designed for outstanding international students applying for a master’s degree at WUR.

For the September 2027 intake, the scholarship is available to international MSc students from countries outside the EU and EFTA. Applicants must have unconditional admission to a Wageningen MSc programme.

Scholarship benefits

The Excellence Scholarship provides a tuition fee waiver for the full 24-month duration of the master’s programme.

However, the scholarship does not cover all study expenses. WUR states that students who receive the tuition fee waiver will still have other first-year costs, including living expenses, health and liability insurance and the residence permit fee. Based on the current fee structure, WUR estimates that the revised first-year invoice will be around €16,500. This amount must be paid before 1 July 2027.

Eligibility requirements

To be considered for the Excellence Programme, applicants must:

• Be a citizen of a country outside the EU and EFTA.
• Apply for a Wageningen MSc programme starting in September 2027.
• Submit a complete MSc application before 1 December 2026.
• Receive unconditional admission to the MSc programme.
• Have a GPA of at least 80%.
• Have a First Class honours bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
• Meet the English language requirements before 1 December 2026.
• Complete the bachelor’s degree and upload the diploma before 1 December 2026.

Selection process

Students cannot simply submit a separate application for the Excellence Scholarship.

The WU Scholarship Selection Committee reviews eligible MSc applications. Around March or April 2027, selected applicants will be informed by email that they have reached the final stage.

On 7 April 2027, the scholarship will be offered to selected students. WUR states that a lottery will be used to determine the scholarship recipients among the candidates selected for the final stage. Remaining candidates will be placed on a waiting list.

2. Africa Scholarship Programme

The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) is designed for talented students from African countries who want to pursue a master’s degree at Wageningen University.

The programme supports students through a combination of financial assistance and academic study at WUR.

Scholarship benefits

The Africa Scholarship Programme covers:

• Tuition fees for 24 months
• Living allowance for 24 months
• Travel to and from the Netherlands
• Visa costs
• Health insurance costs

This makes the ASP one of the most comprehensive Wageningen University scholarships for eligible African students.

Applicants must:

WUR also gives preference to students who have not previously obtained a master’s degree.

How to apply for the Africa Scholarship Programme

The Africa Scholarship Programme is invitation-based. Students do not submit a separate direct application at the initial stage.

Eligible applicants who meet the stated requirements may be invited to the scholarship selection procedure after submitting their MSc application.

Around March or April 2027, selected applicants will be informed about the final stage. WUR states that the scholarship will be offered on 7 April 2027, with other selected candidates placed on a waiting list.

3. Anne van den Ban Fund Scholarship

The Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF) supports talented students from developing countries who want to study at Wageningen University.

The scholarships are assigned in cooperation with Wageningen University and are combined with the WU Fellowship Programme.

Scholarship benefits

For students starting an MSc programme in September 2027, the ABF scholarship includes:

• Travel to and from the Netherlands
• Living allowance for 24 months
• Tuition fee coverage for 24 months
• Visa costs

4. NL Scholarship at Wageningen University

The NL Scholarship is a Dutch government-supported scholarship for international students from selected countries outside the European Economic Area.

For the September 2026 intake, Wageningen University offered the NL Scholarship to selected international MSc students. The 2026 scholarship provided a one-time payment of €5,000, with the possibility of a higher award in some cases. It was a partial scholarship and did not cover all tuition fees, living costs, visa expenses or insurance.

However, applicants planning to start their master’s degree in September 2027 should note that WUR has not yet confirmed whether NL Scholarships will be available for that intake. The university currently states that availability for September 2027 is not yet known.

How to Apply for a Wageningen University Master’s Scholarship

The first step is to apply for an eligible Wageningen University MSc programme.

Step 1: Choose a master’s programme
