The Commonwealth Fellowships 2027 are now open for applications in the United Kingdom. The programme, offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC), provides opportunities for professionals and academics from Commonwealth countries to spend a period of professional or academic development at UK host organisations.
For the 2027 fellowship programme, the CSC has introduced two strands: Commonwealth Professional Fellowships and Commonwealth Academic Fellowships. Both strands are open to eligible candidates from Commonwealth countries, although applicants must meet the specific requirements of their selected host programme.
The Commonwealth Fellowship 2027 is designed for people who plan to use the knowledge and skills gained in the UK to contribute to development in their home countries. Around 40 fellowships are provisionally expected to be available for the 2027 programme.
Applications opened on July 28, 2026, and the official deadline is August 25, 2026, at 16:00 BST. Applicants must submit their applications through the CSC’s online application system.

What is the Commonwealth Fellowship 2027?
The Commonwealth Fellowship Programme allows eligible Commonwealth citizens to spend a short period in the UK undertaking a structured programme of professional development, academic skills development, knowledge exchange and networking.
The programme has two categories.
Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are intended for mid-career professionals who have at least five years of relevant work experience. Fellows undertake professional development at a UK organisation working in their sector.
Commonwealth Academic Fellowships are intended for university academic staff who hold a PhD and are employed by a university in an eligible Commonwealth country outside the UK. The fellowship focuses on academic skills, knowledge exchange, networking and future collaboration.
Unlike a conventional degree scholarship, the Commonwealth Fellowship is a short-term programme. It is designed to help professionals and academics gain skills and experience that they can use after returning to their home countries.

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2027
The Commonwealth Professional Fellowship 2027 is for mid-career professionals from eligible Commonwealth countries.
Applicants must have at least five years of relevant full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience by the proposed start of the fellowship. Voluntary work does not count toward this five-year requirement.
Professional Fellows will spend between six weeks and three months at a UK host organisation. The programme should provide professional development related to the applicant’s field and should have a clear development impact after the fellow returns home.
Professional Fellowships in the 2027 programme must begin between mid-February and mid-March 2027.
