What is the Chevening LSE Fellowship?

Who Can Apply for the Chevening LSE Fellowship?
The Chevening LSE Fellowship has specific eligibility requirements in addition to the general Chevening Fellowship criteria.

- Currently live in China
- Intend to return to China after completing the fellowship

General Chevening Fellowship Eligibility
Applicants must also meet Chevening’s general fellowship requirements. These include being a citizen of a fellowship-eligible country or territory, demonstrating leadership and influence potential, and returning to the country of citizenship for at least one year after the fellowship ends. Applicants must not hold British or dual British citizenship, subject to Chevening’s stated exceptions.
Applicants who have received UK Government scholarship funding within the previous five years are generally not eligible for a Chevening Fellowship. There are also restrictions relating to current or recent employment with certain UK government bodies, the British Council and sponsoring UK universities.
For this particular fellowship, the programme-specific requirement is important because only Chinese citizens currently living in China are eligible. Meeting the general Chevening criteria alone does not make an applicant eligible for the LSE Fellowship.
