The CEEPUS Scholarship in Hungary is now accepting applications from eligible university students and teachers across Central Europe and the Western Balkans. The Central European Exchange Program for University Studies (CEEPUS) offers fully funded academic mobility opportunities at Hungarian universities, allowing participants to study abroad, conduct research, complete internships, attend summer schools, and expand their international academic network.
The CEEPUS program is one of the leading higher education mobility initiatives in Central Europe. It supports cooperation between accredited universities across 16 member countries and provides funding for semester exchanges, short-term research visits, thesis work, and teaching mobility. Scholarship holders receive financial support from the host country, with grants designed to cover living expenses according to local standards.
Students selected for the CEEPUS scholarship in Hungary work closely with professors and researchers at their host universities while earning academic credits, conducting research, or completing internships. Depending on the type of mobility, participants may stay from a few days to up to 10 months. The program also helps students build international collaborations and gain experience at universities across Central Europe.

Types of CEEPUS Mobility
The CEEPUS program offers several mobility options based on academic needs.
Student Mobility
Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students can spend one semester at a Hungarian university. The mobility usually lasts between three and five months. During the exchange, students attend lectures, participate in seminars, earn academic credits, and may also complete an internship as part of their study plan.
Short-Term Student Mobility
Students preparing their Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis and PhD candidates can apply for short-term mobility lasting one to two months. Activities include thesis consultation, laboratory work, research projects, and dissertation-related academic work.
Teacher Mobility
University teachers can receive funding for teaching or thesis supervision at a Hungarian higher education institution. The mobility requires a minimum stay of five working days and at least six teaching or supervision hours. Conference participation or research visits alone do not qualify for this mobility category.
Freemover Mobility
Students and teachers whose universities are not members of a CEEPUS network may still apply as Freemovers. Applicants must first obtain a Letter of Acceptance from a Hungarian host university before submitting their application.

CEEPUS Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria of the CEEPUS Scholarship Program
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be an enrolled student or teacher at an accredited university in a CEEPUS member country.
- Student applicants must have completed at least two semesters of university study.
- Meet any additional selection requirements established by the home institution.
- Not receive another scholarship covering the same mobility period and destination.
- Students cannot receive funding to study in their country of citizenship or residence.
- Student mobility cannot exceed 10 months during each Bachelor’s or Master’s cycle.

How to Apply
Applicants should first identify a suitable Hungarian host university.
For network mobility, both the home university and the host university’s CEEPUS coordinators must support the application. Freemover applicants must secure a Letter of Acceptance from the host university before applying.
Applications are submitted online through the official CEEPUS application portal. After creating an account, applicants complete the online Mobility Wizard and upload the required documents.
Application Deadlines
The annual application deadlines are:
- Network Mobility (Winter/First Semester): 31 August
- Network Mobility (Summer/Second Semester): 31 December
- Freemover Mobility (Winter/First Semester): Opens around 1 July and remains available until places are filled.
- Freemover Mobility (Summer/Second Semester): 30 November
Important Note
The CEEPUS scholarship is available only to students and teachers studying or working at accredited higher education institutions in participating CEEPUS member countries. Students enrolled at universities outside these member countries, including Pakistan, are not eligible unless they are officially studying or teaching at an eligible institution within the CEEPUS network.
