The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a fully funded award for international students who want to study at the University of Cambridge in the UK. Benefits of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship

• Full tuition fees at the University of Cambridge
• Maintenance allowance (£23,152 per year for 12 months at the 2026-27 rate; for PhD scholars the award is for up to 4 years)
• One economy class airfare to and from the UK at the start and end of the course
• Inbound visa costs and Immigration Health Surcharge
• Additional funding (where applicable):
  • Academic development funding (from up to £750 to up to £4,000, depending on the length of your course)
  • Family allowance (up to £12,793 per annum for one child and up to £18,244 per annum for two or more children. No funding is provided for a partner.)
  • Fieldwork support (PhD students can retain their normal maintenance allowance while conducting fieldwork)
  • Maternity/Paternity funding: Scholars can pause (intermit) studies for up to 6 months while continuing to receive their maintenance allowance
  • Hardship funding for unforeseen difficulties

Gates Cambridge does not cover bench fees or the costs of scientific equipment or similar academic resources. These core course costs are expected to be covered by the academic department at Cambridge.

• Please provide an example, or examples, of how you have demonstrated a capacity for leadership. This could be by initiating a change or bringing others together to achieve a goal. How will this help you make an impact in the future? (approx. 300 words, up to 2,100 characters)

For US Citizens

• Applications open: September 2026
