Research Areas
During the fellowship, participants develop a research project focused on reducing risks associated with advanced AI systems. ERA currently supports three main research areas:
1. Technical AI Safety
This area includes AI evaluations, interpretability, robustness, alignment, control, model behaviour, and methods for maintaining human oversight of increasingly capable AI systems.
2. AI Governance
Research can focus on AI regulation, international cooperation, corporate governance, liability, policy frameworks, and institutions that can respond to rapidly developing AI technologies.
3. Technical AI Governance
This stream connects technical research with AI policy. Topics include compute governance, AI auditing, monitoring, technical standards, verification, and mechanisms for measuring and enforcing AI governance requirements.
