The John Lewis Young Leaders Fellowship, run by RFK Human Rights, is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 program. It is meant for undergraduate students who want to create real change in their communities.

About John Lewis Young Leaders Fellowship

This program supports students who care deeply about fairness, human rights, and community work. It looks for students who are ready to speak up, organise, and lead.

The fellowship focuses on students from marginalised communities, especially those who face unfair systems in education, justice, or public life.

You do not need to be perfect. You need to be committed.

Who Can Apply

You can apply if you:

  • Are an undergraduate student
  • Study in a 2-year or 4-year program
  • Attend a college or university in the United States
  • Will graduate in May 2027 or later

Priority is given to:

  • Students at HBCUs, HSIs, and HMSIs
  • Students from underrepresented or marginalised backgrounds

What Fellows Will Do

If selected, you will:

  • Attend a 4-day in-person retreat in June 2026
  • Meet once a month with RFK Human Rights staff for guidance
  • Join monthly group meetings with other fellows
  • Plan and complete a capstone project based on an issue you care about
  • Present your project at the end of the program

This fellowship requires time and effort, but you will not be doing it alone.

What You Get

Fellows receive:

  • $2,000 stipend, paid in two parts
  • $1,000 to support your capstone project
  • Travel and stay are covered for the retreat
  • Training from experienced organizers
