Who Can Apply?

  • Non-EU/EEA students who have received unconditional acceptance to UM’s Master’s by Research or Ph.D. programs.
  • Both full-time and part-time students are eligible.
  • Professional doctorates and MBA-type programs are not eligible.
  • Applications cannot be submitted after starting the program.

How to Apply

Applicants must send an email to the UM International Office with:

  1. UM Applicant ID (from your acceptance letter)
  2. Subject line: “University of Malta Postgraduate Scholarship Application.”
  3. Attachments:
    • Copy of acceptance letter
    • Detailed CV
    • Motivational letter
    • Copy of passport (details page)

The International Office will request an Academic Recommendation Form from your supervisor or department head.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview with the Scholarships Selection Board.

Scholarship Evaluation Criteria

The UM Scholarships Selection Board evaluates candidates based on:

  1. Academic Ability & Research Proposal Quality (60%)
    • Academic track record, publications, references
    • Research relevance and quality of the hypothesis
  2. Motivational Letter (10%)
    • Clarity, connection to career goals, passion for research
  3. Interview Performance (10%)
    • Communication skills, clarity, and suitability for research
  4. Personal Circumstances & Financial Need (10%)
