Eligibility Criteria for the Japanese MEXT Scholarship 2026 at APU:

You are eligible if you are

• An international student planning to study in Japan
• Must hold citizenship from a country designated by MEXT
• Must be born on or after April 2, 1991
• Must have a GPA of 2.30 or higher on a 3.00 scale in your most recent degree

You are not eligible if you are

• Cannot be on active military duty or employed as a civilian military staff at the time of application
• Cannot have previously received a MEXT Scholarship, unless over three years have passed with significant education or work experience, or you were in an approved program (Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship doesn’t count)
• Cannot receive other unapproved scholarships at the same time
• Must hold a valid “Student” visa status in Japan
