Applications are now open for the 2027 Writers-in-Residence Programme at the International Writers’ Workshop in Hong Kong. The fully funded residency program is hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University and invites international writers from around the world to spend four weeks in Hong Kong as part of a global literary exchange program. The residency will take place from 26 February to 25 March 2027 and will conclude with the IWW Literary Festival themed “Inheritance.”
Founded in 2004, the International Writers’ Workshop has hosted more than 150 writers from over 60 countries. The program is considered one of the leading writers’ residency opportunities in Asia and focuses on literature, cultural dialogue, and creative exchange. Selected writers will participate in literary discussions, workshops, readings, and public events during the residency.
The fully funded residency covers round-trip economy airfare, accommodation on the HKBU campus for four weeks, and a daily per diem. There is no application fee. Writers working in fiction, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction, digital writing, graphic literature, libretti, and related literary fields can apply.

Eligibility Criteria for International Writers’ Workshop 2027
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must have at least one published literary book through a recognized press
- Self-published books are not eligible
- Applicants must currently live outside Hong Kong
- Writers should have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)
- Applicants must be available for the full residency period
- Writers should participate in the Welcome Ceremony and Literary Festival activities

Application Requirements
Applicants need to prepare the following documents:
- One-page artist statement in English or Chinese
- 10–12 pages of recent literary work
- English or Chinese translation if the original work is in another language
- CV or resume
- Contact information of two referees
- All documents should be combined into one PDF file
The artist statement should explain the applicant’s writing background and goals for joining the residency program.
