Applications are now open for the FAO internship Program 2026. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Internship Programme offers young people an opportunity to gain valuable work experience at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

The program is designed for students and recent graduates who want to contribute their academic knowledge, innovative ideas, and perspectives to FAO’s mission of defeating hunger and building sustainable agri-food systems. 

Interns will work on projects aligned with FAO’s global mandate, supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

Eligibility Criteria of the FAO Internship Program 2026

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program (from a university recognized in the World Higher Education Database)
  • Be between 21 and 30 years of age at the time of application
  • Be a national of an FAO Member State
  • Specialize in a field relevant to FAO’s mission (agriculture, food security, environment, economics, sustainable development, etc.)
  • Have working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish); knowledge of a second language is an asset
  • Be able to adapt to a multicultural work environment with strong communication skills
  • Not having completed a previous FAO internship
  • Not have immediate family members (parents, siblings) employed by FAO
