What is the New York Climate Exchange Climate Tech Fellowship?

The Climate Tech Fellowship is a six-month hybrid accelerator created by the New York Climate Exchange to support innovators working on climate technologies with strong commercial potential.

The program was established to address one of the biggest challenges facing climate innovation: many promising technologies fail to reach the market because innovators lack commercialization support, industry mentorship, customer discovery, funding opportunities, and investor connections.

Rather than providing only financial support, the fellowship combines structured training, personalized mentoring, commercialization planning, and access to an international climate innovation network.

The 2026 program builds on the inaugural 2025 cohort, where fellows advanced technologies in areas including grid resilience, hydrogen storage, flood monitoring, wildfire management, and ecosystem restoration.

2026 Fellowship Theme: Energy and Urban Resilience

The 2026 fellowship focuses on technologies that improve the resilience of urban energy systems as climate change increases risks to electricity infrastructure and essential public services.

The New York Climate Exchange is seeking innovations that help cities prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-related disruptions while supporting the clean energy transition.

Priority innovation areas include:

End-use energy innovation
Power generation
Energy storage technologies
Grid modernization
Natural carbon solutions
Cross-disciplinary climate technologies related to urban resilience

Applicants with solutions spanning multiple technology areas are also encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

The Climate Tech Fellowship is intended for innovators working on early-stage climate technologies that have already moved beyond basic research.

Applicants are encouraged to apply if they:

Are researchers, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, or innovators
Are developing technologies related to energy and urban resilience
Have a prototype, pilot project, or early commercialization-stage innovation
Want structured commercialization support rather than only grant funding
Can commit several hours each week during the six-month fellowship
