Applications are now open for the ASEF Capacity Building Program 2026, a fully funded international training opportunity that will be held in Kunming, China. The three-day training will take place from 7 to 9 September 2026 and will bring together approximately 20 professionals from eligible Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) partner countries. Selected participants will receive travel and accommodation support.

About the ASEF Capacity Building Program 2026

The ASEF Capacity Building Program is an international training initiative designed to support professionals working in policy, governance, social development, research, advocacy, and institutional leadership.

The 2026 edition focuses on Gender Equality and Women’s Participation, highlighting the importance of women’s leadership and representation in decision-making processes. The program will provide participants with practical tools and knowledge that can be applied within their organizations and professional sectors.

The training is hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

Participants will receive reimbursement for economy-class airfare to and from Kunming, China, subject to the program’s reimbursement policy and maximum funding ceiling.

Eligibility Criteria

The ASEF Capacity Building Program is open to applicants from eligible ASEM partner countries.

  • Representatives of civil society organizations promoting gender equality
  • Gender focal points within government institutions
  • Members of inter-ministerial groups and commissions

Additional eligible applicants may include:

  • Academic researchers and university professionals
  • Representatives of private-sector organizations working on women’s empowerment and participation

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of eligible ASEM partner countries
  • Have working proficiency in English
  • Be involved in policy development, program design, advocacy, research, or institutional practice
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply learning outcomes within their professional environment

Who Cannot Apply?

The following individuals are not eligible:

  • Independent consultants
  • Students without relevant professional work experience

The endorsement letter must:

  • Be written in English
  • Be issued on official letterhead or sent from an official organizational email address
