Germany-based researchers in engineering and applied sciences can now apply for the Germany-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium 2027. The programme is organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in partnership with the National Academy of Engineering.
The fully funded symposium will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 10 to 13 March 2027. Selected participants will join researchers from Germany and the United States to discuss engineering innovation, sustainability, climate adaptation, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies.

After the symposium, participants can apply for the CONNECT follow-up programme offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
The CONNECT programme supports short-term research visits between Germany and the United States. It provides residence allowances for collaborative research activities that emerge from the symposium.
Researchers can use the funding for working visits of up to 30 days.
Financial Benefits
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation will cover:
- Hotel accommodation for three nights
- Meals during the symposium
- Travel expenses within Germany
Travel reimbursement is generally based on second-class Deutsche Bahn fares.
Eligibility Criteria of Germany-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must work in Germany
- Must be employed at a research institution or in the industry sector
- Must have completed a PhD within the last 12 years by the time of the symposium
- Must have strong English language skills
- Must attend the entire symposium programme
