The University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships 2026 are now open for international and domestic students pursuing a Master’s by Research or PhD degree in Australia. The scholarship program includes the Melbourne Research Scholarship and the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship. Around 600 scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding students with strong academic and research backgrounds.

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, a generous living stipend, relocation support, and health insurance for international students. Applicants do not need to submit a separate scholarship application in most cases, as eligible students are automatically considered after applying for an eligible graduate research program.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected students may receive the following benefits:

  • Full tuition fee remission for:
    • Up to 2 years for a Master’s by Research
    • Up to 4 years for Doctoral degree programs
  • Living allowance of AUD 39,500 per year (2026 rate)
  • Relocation grant:
    • AUD 2,000 for students moving from other Australian states or territories
    • AUD 3,000 for students moving from outside Australia
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students requiring a student visa
  • Paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave provisions

  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the university

Selection Criteria

How to Apply

  • Current students and deferred offer holders must submit an online scholarship application form by 31 October for consideration in the following year.
