The World Press Institute (WPI) Fellowship is a well-known international program for journalists.
Every year, WPI selects 10 journalists from different countries for a nine-week program in the United States.

The goal of the program is to help journalists learn how the U.S. media works, understand American society, and see how a free press supports democracy.

What Is the WPI Fellowship?

The WPI Fellowship is an immersive learning program, not an online course or classroom degree.

Fellows travel across the United States and:

  • Meet journalists, editors, and media leaders
  • Talk with experts from think tanks and advocacy groups
  • Learn how the U.S. media reports on politics, society, and significant issues
  • Understand the role of journalism in holding powerful institutions accountable

Only 10 journalists are selected, even though hundreds apply every year.
