Eligibility Requirements for WZU Chinese Government Scholarship
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a citizen of a country other than China and in good physical and mental health.
- For master’s programmes: hold a bachelor’s degree, have excellent academic performance, and be under 35 years old at the time of application.
- For doctoral programmes: hold a master’s degree, have excellent academic performance, and be under 40 years old.
- Language requirements:
- For Chinese‑taught programmes: hold HSK Level 5 (score 180 or above). Applicants who studied at a Chinese university where Chinese was the medium of instruction may submit a “Medium of Instruction Certificate” to waive the HSK.
- For English‑taught programmes: TOEFL ≥ 80 or IELTS ≥ 6.0. Applicants with a degree from a university/institution where English was the medium of instruction may submit a “Medium of Instruction Certificate” to waive the test requirement. Native English speakers or applicants from countries where English is the official language may also apply for the waiver.
- Meet the specific academic admission requirements of the relevant school/college at Wenzhou University.

Required Documents for WZU Chinese Government Scholarship
Applicants should prepare the following:
- Copy of the passport home page (validity must meet the requirement, i.e., passport should remain valid beyond September 2026).
- Degree certificates: originals of all academic degrees from undergraduate level onwards. Fresh graduates must provide a pre‑graduation certificate with expected graduation by August 31, 2026.
- Academic transcripts: from undergraduate programme onwards (and graduate/doctoral if applicable). These must be issued and sealed by the relevant university department. If the language is neither Chinese nor English, a notarised English translation must be attached.
- Resume: Including continuous study and work experience since undergraduate studies. (If you studied in China, please provide a transcript of your entire study experience.)
- Personal Statement & Study Plan: More than 1,000 words, in Chinese or English, covering your academic background, study/work experience, achievements, research plan, and development goals.
- Language proficiency certificate: As per the eligibility section (TOEFL/IELTS for English‑taught; HSK for Chinese‑taught).
- Two Recommendation Letters: In Chinese or English. Recommenders must be at least associate professor level in the relevant field, with valid contact information.
- Certificate of Non‑Criminal Record: Issued by the local public security authority, usually within six months of application.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form: Official medical exam form (for international students) issued by the Chinese quarantine authority. The results are valid for only six months.
Note: All certificates/attestations must be originals or notarised; documents must be colour scans; all information must be true and accurate. Academic misconduct or the submission of falsified information will result in disqualification.

How to Apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship at Wenzhou University
- Step 1: Prepare all materials in the prescribed order and send an electronic version (zip file) to admission@wzu.edu.cn
- Step 2: The Overseas Students Education & Services office conducts a preliminary review and identifies applicants who qualify for further review.
- Step 3: An evaluation committee assesses your materials in detail, looking at academic performance, research ability, and development potential, and assigns a review score.
- Step 4: A “Defense Review” is organized, and the final list of recommended candidates is determined.
- Step 5: The university issues a Pre‑Admission Letter to the recommended applicants.
- Step 6: Applicants log in to the national Chinese Government Scholarship website (type: “B”) at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/ and fill out the application; use school code 10351.
- Step 7: The China Scholarship Council reviews applications and selects final recipients.
- Step 8: Wenzhou University notifies accepted applicants, issues the official Acceptance Letter and Visa Application for Study in China (Form JW201).
