Benefits of the Swedish Institute Global Scholarships

When awarded, the scholarship includes:

• Full tuition-fee coverage: SI pays the Swedish university directly for the tuition fees.
• Monthly living allowance: SEK 12,000 per month throughout the study period.
• Travel grant (one-time): SEK 15,000 for most recipients; for scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, the travel grant is SEK 10,000.
• Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (now sometimes referred to as the NFGP) is a professional development and networking platform.
• Following the scholarship period, membership in the Sweden Alumni Network.

What the scholarship does not cover:

• Insurance is not included (you should check with your university for health/accident insurance coverage).
• Additional grants for family members.
• Application fees to the Swedish university admission system.
• Changing of the awarded master’s programme or extension of the scholarship beyond the agreed period.

Eligibility Requirements of the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals

Key eligibility requirements:

• Citizenship: You must be a citizen of one of the eligible countries listed by SI. (You do not need to be residing in that country at the time of application.)
• Master’s programme: You must apply for and be admitted (or conditionally admitted) to one of the eligible master’s programmes in Sweden, and you must be liable to pay tuition fees (i.e., a non-EU/EEA student for Swedish tuition purposes).
• Work experience: Applicants from many countries must have at least 3,000 hours of work experience (which can be full-time, part-time, freelance, or employer) accumulated across up to 3 employers. For applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, proof of work experience is required; however, no minimum number of hours is specified.
• Leadership experience: You must demonstrate relevant leadership experience (in your current or previous employer or through civil society engagement).

You are not eligible if you:

• Are currently enrolled in or hold a Swedish university degree.
• Have already resided in Sweden for a cumulative two years or more before the scholarship period (starting August of the intake year).
• Have previously been awarded an SI scholarship for studies in Sweden.
• Have Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship (or Swedish permanent residence or certain work permits) unless specific exceptions apply (e.g., Ukrainian applicants under temporary protection).

Required Documents for Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

1. A Curriculum Vitae (CV) use the SI template and is usually limited to three pages.
2. Motivation Letter: Complete the motivation section in the application portal, explaining your goals, leadership skills, and how your studies will contribute to sustainable development.
3. Letters of reference (two), at least one must be based on your work experience; using the SI template; signed and stamped by a referee/organization.
4. Proof of work and leadership experience using SI’s forms; signed/stamped by organizations where you gained the experience.
5. Copy of a valid passport or national ID card showing your citizenship, photograph, and personal data.
   You should submit only one scholarship application, even if you applied for multiple eligible master’s programmes (you can list up to four eligible programmes in one application).

Note: Only the required documents will be considered; additional documents will not influence the evaluation.

How to Apply for the Swedish Institute Global Scholarships

The application process consists of two main steps:

1. Apply for a Swedish master’s programme via the central portal University Admissions in Sweden within the given admission dates. Ensure your chosen programme is on the list of eligible master’s programs for SISGP.
2. Apply for the SISGP scholarship via SI’s online application portal:
   • Create an account on the portal.
   • Once logged in, add the eligible master’s programmes you applied for (you may include up to four) in your scholarship application.
   • Upload the required documents (CV, motivation, references, work/leadership proof, passport copy) in English, following the SI templates.
   • Submit your application before the deadline.
     SI then carries out the screening, evaluation, selection, and finally issues scholarship offers to successful candidates.

Important Dates of the SISGP Scholarship

For the academic year 2025/2026, the relevant dates are:

• 16 October 2025 – 15 January 2026: Apply for master’s programmes via University Admissions.
• Application portal for the SISGP Scholarship: February 9, 2026 – February 25, 2026.
• University Admissions announcement of admission results: 26 March 2026.
• Scholarship results announcement by SI: 23 April 2026.
• For earlier years (2025 call), the portal opens from 10 to 26 February 2025; the portal closes on 26 February 2025 at 14:59 CET.
