The Harpswell Leadership Residency 2027 is a professional development and volunteer opportunity for international women who want to teach, mentor, and work with Cambodian university students in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. About the Harpswell Leadership Residency 2027
Harpswell’s Leadership Residents become part of its residential leadership community in Phnom Penh. Residents teach the organization’s Core Curriculum, lead critical-thinking discussions and provide English language support to Cambodian university students.
The program combines teaching, mentoring and professional development. Harpswell says the residency allows participants to refine their professional interests, develop their leadership style and gain practical experience in a cross-cultural environment.
The main responsibilities include:
- Teaching Harpswell’s Core Curriculum
- Leading twice-weekly critical-thinking discussions on current events
- Tutoring students in English
- Holding regular office hours
- Supporting students’ leadership development
- Building relationships with students and alumnae
- Organizing cultural activities
Harpswell’s residential centers are designed to support young Cambodian women while they attend universities in Phnom Penh. Its leadership curriculum includes critical thinking, analytical writing, debate, civic engagement, English and digital literacy.

Harpswell Leadership Residency Benefits
The Harpswell Leadership Residency provides several benefits to selected participants. These benefits are intended to cover basic living costs during the residency, not to function as a salary.

Participants must arrange their own travel to and from Cambodia.
The program also provides practical teaching and mentoring experience. Former Leadership Residents have gone on to work in education, nonprofit organizations, social impact and other professional fields. Harpswell reports that more than 150 Leadership Residents from around the world have participated in the program.

Harpswell Leadership Resident Fellowship 2027 Benefits
Harpswell also offers the Leadership Resident Fellowship, a separate 12-month residential position for one selected woman. The Fellow acts as a peer leader for the Leadership Residents and helps coordinate the program.
The Leadership Resident Fellow receives:

- $420 USD monthly stipend
- A 12-month residential placement
- Professional development experience
Applicants for the Fellow position should have at least two years of professional experience, while teaching experience is strongly preferred. Responsibilities include managing LR schedules, onboarding new residents, facilitating curriculum and critical-thinking sessions, organizing activities and supporting the communications team.
